The Divie Viaduct

Viaduct 1

The Viaduct was opened in 1863, the last train crossed in 1965.

Work is continuing to fully restore and preserve it, funded by a local trust set up by the late Sir Hector Laing.

The track bed has been concreted over to cut down on the seepage to the stonework below. Work has also been carried out to repoint two of the arches, we've been told that as the trust builds up again further remedial work will be done.
The viaduct has now been closed to vechicular traffic.

Have a look for a local man's name on the east parapet, it's at the south end, on the 2nd long capstone in.
[R CAMERON] Roderick Cameron lived at Oichquhorn on the hill immediately northeast of the viaduct. His croft Oichquhorn was just at the trees at the top left, in the above photograph.
He was a Dyker, listed as such in the Parish records of 1861. It was said that every local man who could build a dyke was suddenly a Stonemason and got a job on the viaduct.

I've heard a "story" that a horse and cart is in the 2nd arch. Honestly, I think the story transferred from the Glenfinnan Viaduct where there was a documented incident of this happening.

There are 2 information panels on the parapets.
